Gabrielle Bootes

Gabrielle Bootes

Gabrielle Mercedes Bootes (B. 1998) is a second-generation Refugee, currently residing and practicing on Gadigal Land (Sydney NSW). Her practice as of current explores the traditional act of storytelling and visual representations of literacy, particularly that of her own Chilean culture and folklore. Gabrielle’s works are composed from a diverse range of mediums, with her primary focus on illustration and painting, with heavy influences from fantasy literature. She uses her art as a form of reconnecting with her heritage that was taken from her and her family during the dictatorship of Chile. Gabrielle hopes to bring back Chilean arts to its traditional roots of using pictorial narratives as a form of passing knowledge and storytelling, specifically the mythology and folklore.
