Artists statement 2025 Tristan Dillon My name is Tristan Dillon, originally from Thirroul, Wollongong, where my early schooling sparked a lasting love for art. Throughout high school I focused on creative subjects, collaborating with local cafés on t-shirt designs and participating in community art fairs and exhibitions. I later moved to Sydney where I am now in my third year of Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) at the National Art School. My practice centres on oil painting and the human figure as a means of exploring identity, vulnerability, and the complexities of the human condition. I often use myself as a reference to closely realise the visions behind my work. My paintings shift between serenity and chaos, depicting the extremes of human behaviour—how we harm ourselves or others. Drawing on classical and art-historical imagery, I recontextualise traditional motifs within a contemporary framework. This dialogue between past and present allows me to question the relevance of historical narratives and their influence on modern identity and cultural memory.
